Indy Needs New Courthouse, More Court Employees

By the Associated Press

A report due out today recommends more staff and more space for the Marion County Courts. But with the county in a budget crunch, the report doesn’t say how to pay for the additions.

A consultant looked at both the courts and another two dozen state and local agencies before concluding that the Marion County court system needs more employees that earn higher salaries.

The study also stresses that the county needs a new courthouse. And, all this will cost about $250 million dollars.

Ironically, the recommendations come as the court system is struggling to cut $2 million from its 2005 budget to help the county deal with its budget shortfall.
