Council Authorizes Hiring of 22 County Jail Officers

February 24, 2004
The City-County Council approved the hiring of 22 corrections officers for the Marion County Jail on Monday night.

By shifting $567,000 from community corrections funding, the council helped fulfill part of a federal judge's order that the county reduce jail crowding.

That money is a one-year fix, however. Councilwoman Jackie Nytes, a Democrat, emphasized that the council will need to find new money to cover the cost beginning next year.
